Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent corrosion deterioration of electrode owing to harmful third substance in detection gas and enable durability to be improved by forming a heat-resisting film of compact structure through which the detection gas does not permeate on the specific surface of a solid electrolyte made detecting element.
CONSTITUTION: A solid electrolyte made oxygen density detecting element 1 is formed and sintered to cup form with one end being open and other end being closed. A porous auxiliary electrode 3 composed of Pt powder and low m.p. glass is formed on the outside surface on the automobile exhaust gas side thereof. Next, a heat-resisting film 5 of 20 to 100μ composed of glassy material is formed in the position near the fixing part of the element 1 to the housing and where the flow of the exhaust gas stagnates. Thereafter, a thin-film form porous second Pt electrode 4 is formed by double plating system of chemical plating and electroplating. Further, an insulation film 6 composed of porous MgO.Al2O3 through which the exhaust gas is permeable is formed on the electrode 4 and film 5.
