Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title adsorbent of superior hydrophilic property contg. sulfur by mixing a reaction product of cyanuric chloride, thiocarbohydrazide and polyether with polyisocyanate in a polar solvent of above a specified dielectric constant, followed by hardening. CONSTITUTION:Polyisocyanate of formula I (l; 0,1,2 or 3) is mixed into a reaction product or a compsn. of cyanuric chloride, 1-3 mols of thiocarbohydrazide to 1 mol of cyanuric chloride and polyether of formula HO(CH2CH2O)nH (n; an integer >=2) in a polar aprotic solvent of a dielectric constant above 30, e.g. N,N-DMF, followed by hardening. The polyether and polyisocyanate are used in an amt. required to occupy more than 10 wt% and more than 20 wt% of the product resin, respectively. The resulting adsorbent contains more than 1 millimol/l of sulfur, and has superior hydrophilic property, high heavy metal adsorption capacity and superior mechanical strength.
