Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent decrease in the performance of catalyst due to local temp. drop, by equipping the catalytic oxidation apparatus with multistage platinum nets arranged through a spacer, and with catalyst packing placed behind the platinum nets so as to uniformize the load on the whole catalyst during combustion of a sample.
CONSTITUTION: Constant quantities of a sample 1 of aq. material and combustion- improving gas 2 are admitted to a catalytic apparatus 5, where it is gasified by the apparatus 5 and is burned. The combustion gas is delivered to a detector through a cooling pipe 6, a gas/liq. separator, and a filter etc. The sample 1 is first scattered by the contact with the first stage of multistage platinum nets 11 arranged by means of a spacer 10, and then with succeeding stages. Hereby the sample 1 is gasified completely and uniformly until it reaches the final platinum net. Hereafter, the gasified sample is completely burned on the surface of packing 9 which is made by coating or impregnating ceramic fiber etc. with oxidation catalyst such as cobalt oxide etc.
