The connector device 18 is provided with a switch element 19 adapted t be switched from the "on" state to the "off" state in an interlocked relation to the connection of the contacts A and C and B and D. When the battery 6 is left without connection, the switch element 19 is in the "off" state, so that a resistor 20 is inserted in the shunted state between the input terminals of a battery checker 17. In this way, the battery checker 17 can be protected from the pulsating high voltage of the charging circuit.
