Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the vibration resistance and coiling workability of an incandescent lamp by turning the lamp ON at a temperature lower than 2,700°C. using a coil filament of doped tungsten containing 2 to 4 by weigth % rhenium.
CONSTITUTION: It was discovered that the strength of a filament against external vibration and impact is increased using doped tungsten containing rhenium for a incandescent lamp in view of the remarkable improvement of brittleness peculiar for the tungsten wire by adding suitable amount of allow of doped tungsten and rhenium. Since the rhenium content ratio seriously affects the wire mechanical and lamp life characteristics, the rhenium content most be determined from the point of vibration resistance and using temperature. As a result of experiments, 2 to 4 by weight % of rhenium is most preferable at 2,700°C. of using temperature.
