Abstract

PURPOSE: To limit the overvoltage, occurring when the power source service recovers from its interruption, to a value corresponding to the slip, by providing in each secondary phase of the induction motor an overvoltage control circuit including a thyristor with a self-turning -off function.
CONSTITUTION: The secondary power in an induction motor 12 is returned to the power source bus 10 by a converting device 16, and speed control for the motor 12 is effected by controlling said power. In the secondary side of the motor 12 there is provided an overvoltage suppressing circuit 22 including thyristor GTO with a self- turning-off function. Thus, upon power service interruption, energy of the motor by-passes to the overvoltage circuit 22 by the turning-on of GTO and SCR caused by a sequence circuit 20, and the corresponding current is detected by a detector SH to turn off GTO when the detected current becomes less than a certain value and accommodate the recovering of power service, so that the overvoltage induced in the secondary side can be limited to a value corresponding to the slip 1.
