Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide, when overloading occurs due to a shorting accident or the like, demagnetization-protection for a permanent magnet used as a rotor, by providing magnetic by-pass circuits at the opening portions of a plurality of slots formed in the inner periphery of a cylindrical iron-core.
CONSTITUTION: In an AC generator using a permanent magnet 3 as a rotor, magnetic wedges 5 are inserted into the opening portions of a plurality of slots provided in the inner surface of a cylindrical armature core to form the by-pass for the magnetic flux when overloading occurs due to a shorting accident or the like. Thus, in case of overloading, the magnetic flux 6 from the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet 3 passing through the armature core portion 7 is supprssed by the increased load resistance and said flux by-passes without crossing the armature coil 8, so that the voltage induced in the armature coil 8 and hence the armature current is reduced, resulting in the improvement of the demagnetization effect on the permanent magnet 3 forming the magetic poles.
