Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce plate crystals of a predetermined shape and uniform quality under constantly good conditions by detecting a change of the shape of a meniscus part between the upper end of a die and grown crystals as an electric signal and controlling equipment heating temp. and crystal pulling speed in accordance with the signal.
CONSTITUTION: An apparent change of the area of meniscus part 10 varies the electric signal output of photo electric converter 21, and a change of the temp. of the part similarly varies the output since the change is accompanied by a change in luminance. A change in electric signal due to a change of the shape, however, is more remarkable because it corresponds with a change of the area of high luminance. The elecdtric signal output of converter 21 is amplified with amplifier 23 and sent to a control circuit consisting of power control section 24 and pulling speed control section 25. When the output is increased, section 24 reduces power supply to heating zone 3, and at the same time, section 25 increases the pulling speed of crystal pulling mechanism 26. When the signal is reduced, control in the reverse directions is carried out.
