Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound with high selectivity, by reacting the reaction product between an alcohol, a specific amount of a carbonate of a metal of Group I and CO2 with an allyl halide in the presence of a catalyst at a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of an alcohol, e.g. diethylene glycol, is reacted with a carbonate of a metal of Group I, e.g. light ash, in an amount of equimolar or more with the hydroxyl group of the alcohol, preferably 1.05W1.5 moles and CO2 to give a reaction product. The product is then reacted with an allyl halide, e.g. allyl chloride, in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. triethylamine, of formula I: (R1 and R2 are alkyl, cyclic alkyl groups, etc.), formula II: (R3 is R1, R2 or H; R4 is R1 or R2; X is anion, e.g. halide ion) at 70W110°C to given an allyl carbonate, e.g. allyl ethyl carbonate.
EFFECT: Easy separation and purification of the carbonate.
