Abstract

PURPOSE: Fine bead by an increased rate of welding and a reduced rate of sputtering is achieved. For this purpose, consumable electrode is fed into hollow portion of nonconsumable electrode which is supplied with low current and provided with inner copper tube.
CONSTITUTION: A first electrode comprises a hollow shaped nonconsumable electrode 4 having an internally contacted copper tube 5, into which is fed a second electrode, or consumable electrod 3. The seconde electrode 3 is supplied with a current of about 1/2 to 1/4 of the first electrode. An arc 6 of the first electrode thermally cooperate with a second arc of the consumable electrode 3, thereby to effect smooth transfer of molten drop and enhance wire melting efficiency. In this process, argon or similar gas is satisfactorily used as shield gas 11. Since the process provides bead of considerable width, it is important in practical use as an easy welding means which is not sensitive to groove accuracy.
