Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title composition for molded products with little anisotropy as to strength, shrinkage, etc. along with high dimensional stability and heat resistance, by incorporating polyethylene terephthalate with glass fiber and talc.
CONSTITUTION: Polyethylene terephthalate is incorporated with (1) as a fibrous filler, 5-9 wt. % of glass fiber in the form of roving or chopped strands of an aspect ratio ≥ 20, and (2) as a powdered filler, 15-40 wt. % of talc of an average particle size of, pref. 0.01-10μ, then kneaded in a molten state to make into pellets; which are molded, through e.g. pressurized molding process, into a product. Further incorporation of 5 wt. % of flake-shaped glass foils, as another powdered filler, baving an average particle size ≤ 500μ, totalling 20-50 wt. % of all fillers, results in a molded product with higher strength and heat resistence.
