Abstract
PURPOSE: Carbon monoxide, oxygen, an alcohol containing a catalyst and nitrite ester are together subjected to reaction through a specifically circulated process to produce continuously oxalic diester for long periods of time.
CONSTITUTION: The catalytic reaction under pressure is conducted by supplying a gas containing carbon monoxide and oxygen and a mixture of an alcohol containing metal catalyst of platinum group and nitrite ester to reactor 1 to form a reaction mixture containing oxalic diester. Then the mixture is introduced into dehydrator 2 and formed water is distilled off along with the nitrite ester in the form azeotropic mixture and separated. The remaining nitrite ester is recycled to dehydrator 2. A part of the dehydration mixture is circulated to reactor 1 and the catalyst in the rest part is reduced and separated, then the objective oxalic ester is obtained.
EFFECT: Water formed by dehydration can be removed without accumulation in the reaction system and the reaction can be obtained for long periods of time.
USE: Starting materials for oxalic acid, oxamide and others.
