Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a stable latent image by detecting the charging corona current flowing from a corona discharger to a member to be charged thereby to control the image forming conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to the formation of an image, a high voltage current of high voltage generating means 1 is applied to a corona discharger 2 so as to measure the low voltage terminal of the means 1 and the voltage of a resistor 6 which is connected with the grid of the discharger 2 or a shield case 4. Then, the discharge current to flow through a member 5 to be charged is substantially detected. As a result, irrespective of an environmental change or the contamination of the dishcarger 2, detecting signals for charging the member 5 at a preset level can be obtained. If the detecting signals are held to control the exposing conditions of the member 5 and the image forming conditions such as a bias voltage to be applied to the developing electrode of a developing member, the potential of a latent image is stabilized, even in case the surrounding conditions are varied, so that a preset stable and excellent latent image can be formed on the member 5.
