Abstract

PURPOSE: 2-Mercaptobenzimidazole or its derivative is added to an aqueous solution of acrylamide polymers to prevent the decomposition of acrylamide polymers in solution state.
CONSTITUTION: To an aqueous solution of acrylamide polymers with a concentration of 0.0001W20 wt% are added 0.1W20 parts by wt, per 100 parts of the acrylamide polymers, of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole or its derivative of formula (X is H, alkali metal, ammonium).
EFFECT: The aqueous acrylamide solutions are stabilized over a wide range of temperature from 0 to 80°C for long periods of time.
