Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a catalyst with a large strength which enables effective purification of CO in the air at a normal temperature even in the presence of steam by supporting a platinum group metal catalyst with the mixture of powdered activated charcoal, K2CO3 and calcium oxide aluminate following pelletization kneaded with water after a specified bonder is added thereto.
CONSTITUTION: K2CO3 is mixed with a powdered activated charcoal with a grain passable through a screen of 300 mesh and alumina cement at a ratio by weight of 1/3/6. Then, as a binder, one or more of a bentonite and sodium alginate or calboxymethyl sodium cellulose are added thereto and the mixture is kneaded with water and dried to be hardened after an extrusion molding whereby a carrier is prepared. The carrier is submerged into a solution containing platinic chloride and palladium chloride. After adsorbing these salts completely, it is reduced by sodium borohydride. Thereafter, the intended catalyst can be produced by washing and drying the matter thus obtained.
