Abstract

PURPOSE:To uniform the cross-sectional hardness distribution of a deformed steel wire by directly patenting each of deformed carbon steel products in a warm water vessel of above 70 deg.C, followed by continuous cold drawing through deformed dies. CONSTITUTION:Each of carbon steel products contg. C; 0.1-0.9%, Mn; 0.5- 0.8% and Si; 0.2-0.3% is deformed to a shape other than round. The resulting carbon steel wire the cross section of which is deformed is patented in a warm water vessel of above 70 deg.C to provide drawability, pickled, and continuously cold drawn through dies of the same shape. Since deformation of the wire in the dies is uniformed, a local increase in friction is minimized on the contact face between the dies and the wire, and seizing or wear of the dies are reduced, elongating the dies life. The uniform deformation results in uniform cross-sectional hardness distribution of the deformed steel wire.
