Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title wire rod in a simple and efficient manner by holding a heated low carbon boron steel wire rod of a suitable compsn. in a fluidized, heated bed for an adequate time to transform most of the structure into bainite. CONSTITUTION:A wire rod of low carbon boron steel contg., by wt., C; 0.1- 0.5%, Si; 0.05-0.5%, Mn; 0,5-2%, B<=0.01%, Ti<=0.1% and acid sol. Al<= 0.1% is held in a fluidized bed heated to 70-400 deg.C for 20-240 sec to transform most of the structure into bainite. The bed for refining is a heated bed formed by suspending fine grains of inorg. substance such as alumina in a heat treatment vessel. The bed-constituting fine grains only act as heating media, and the refining can be carried out without consuming the grains. Thus, a high strength, high toughness steel wire rod can be obtd. simply and efficiently.
