Abstract

PURPOSE: The accuracy of a gas temperature measurement in a shaft furnace such as a blast furnace is improved by speciallizing a measuring location and a gas-sucking rate in a measuring instrument, or sonde.
CONSTITUTION: A sonde is installed at a gas temperature measuring zone in a shaft furnace. The sonde has a vertical gas-sucking hole 1 and a conduit 2 for the sucked gas. The whole sonde body is cooled by cooling-passage 3,3'. A sheathed thermocouple 4 for measuring temperature is installed in the hole at a point (d,1), spaced d from the wall 6, spaced 1 from the inlet, respectively. The location (d,1) has a specified value such that it is not affected by cooling effect of the sonde. A rate of sucking gas volume per unit time, i.e.a gas-flow rate at the measuring point is specified so as to exceed a predetermined value thereby to eliminate the wall cooling effect and to provide an accurate gas temperature.
