Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title copolymer having uniformly introduced peroxide groups and excellent curing characteristics, and useful as a molding compound, by the copolymerization of an unsaturated peroxycarbonate with a dicarboxylic acid diallyl ester.
CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated peroxycarbonate of formula I (R is alkyl, etc.), e.g. t-butyl peroxyallylcarbonate, is made to react with a dicarboxylic acid diallyl ester of formula II (X is aromatic group), e.g. diallyl phthalate, in the presence of radical polymerization initiator such as benzoyl peroxide, pref. at 10W90°C. When the conversion of the monomers reaches 5W70%, the reaction mixture is cooled to afford the objective random pre-copolymer of formulas III, IV, and V, having an average molecular weight of 2000W3000, and a degree of residual unsaturation of 10W50%.
