Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to reduce the size in multiple mades through a simple control by controlling the selection of a cassette in accordance with a reduced image, the initial position, scanning speed and compensating exposure of a scanning optical system. CONSTITUTION:If a reduction ratio is selected, the kind of a cassette of the size according to the size changing mode for originals of different sizes is designated. On the other hand, the initial position of the scanning optical system, which is moving at a half speed of a mirror 17 and which is composed of an illuminating lamp 16, a mirror 15 and the mirror 17, is detected at the speed according to the size reducing mode and ratio. Then, the insertion of the cassette of the preset size and the movement of the scanning optical system to the initial position are electrically confirmed to establish the copyable condition. When the cassette of the designated size is inserted and the copy button is depressed, the exposure time of a photosensitive drum 11 by a compensating lamp 5 is controlled in accordance with the copying mode and the reducing ratio thereby to prevent toners from being caught by the unnecessary portion. Thus, for plurality of modes of originals of different sizes, the copying operations of varying sizes for plural modes can be accomplished merely by controlling the initial position and scanning speed of the optical system.
