Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Erythromycin A derivatives of the formula (R is formly, acetyl, methanesulfonyl).
EXAMPLE: 2',4"-Di-0-methanesulfonylerylerythromycin A.
USE: Antibiotics or their intermediates, being effective on gram-negative and positive bacteria and characterized by the methanesulfonylation of the hydroxyl group in 2-position.
PREPARATION: The methanesulfonylation of erythromycin A or 4"-0-formylerythromycin A or 4"-0-acetylerythromycin A is conducted using methanesulfonyl halide or methanesulfonic anhydride at 0W7°C for 0.5W24hr in an inert solvent to form the compound of the formula.
