Abstract
PURPOSE: To control the discharge flow rate of a centrifugal pump within the rated level by providing a flow control valve in the discharge piping of the pump for automatic control of the discharge pressure.
CONSTITUTION: The pressure in a piping 6 is lead to a cylinder 14 via a pilot piping 28 and is exerted on a pressure receiving surface A1 of a piston 20 while the pressure of a piping 7 is exerted on a pressure receiving surface A2 of a piston 19 whereby the resultant force of the forces acting on the pistons 19 and 20 pushes up a valve stem 17 resisting against a spring 21 to open a flow passage of a flow control valve 3. When K is the spring constant of the spring 21 and δ is the deflection: Kδ={A1(H1+H2)+A2H2}/ρ. When H=H1+H2: Kδ=(A1H+A2H2)/ρ whereby the flow passage area of the flow control valve 3 increases or decreases corresponding to the value of (A1H+A2H2). Since A1<A2, the flow passage area of the flow control valve decreases when H2 is lower than predetermined level and balances at the point where the total head H1+H2 is larger than the rated head.
