Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve wetting of surfaces of methacrylate copolymer moldings with blood, by bringing the surfaces into contact with an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali, heated above the softening point of the copolymer, to make them hydrophilic.
CONSTITUTION: The surfaces of moldings of a copolymer consisting of (a) ≥ 60wt.% of an alkyl methacrylate and (b) the other vinyl compounds, are hydrolyzed and made hydrophilic by dipping the surfaces in an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali, heated above the softening point of the copolymer.
