Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a highly flame-retardant polystayrene resin having excellent weatherability, heat deformation properties, and moldability, useful for electrical apparatus, by compounding polystyrene resin with tetrabromobisphenol A and an oligomer of alkyl halide and tetrabromobisphenol A.
CONSTITUTION: A polystyrene reein composition having excellent strenght, moldability, and flame-retardancy, is prepared by compounding (A) 100 parts of polystyrene, with (B) 1W10 parts of tetrabromobisphenol A and (C) 5W30 parts of an oligomer having an average degree of polymerization of 2W10, obtained by the reaction of tetrabromobisphenol A with a 1W5C, pref. 1W3C alkyl halide (e.g. ethylene dibromide).
