Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool efficiently the wound hot-rolled coil without causing the occurrence of rust and the hardening of steel strip, by placing the above coil in a state of down end and cooling this coil under a specified condition for cooling with water.
CONSTITUTION: The hot-rolled coil 1 which has been wound at 500W700°C, is placed in a state of down end (horizontal hole) and both of the ends 11 and 11 in the width direction are cooled with water. At this case, the amount of water to be used for cooling is made 5W200l/min. m2 per each end and the cooling is continued at least until the temperature of the coil becomes nearly 100°C. With this process, the cooling time can be shortened remarkably and, further, the area of cooling yard can be reduced.
