Abstract

PURPOSE:Semipermeable membrane for desalting sea water and brine is provided by reacting a modified polyether having a specific repetition unit with a particular polyfunctional material. CONSTITUTION:A moidified polyether having a specific repetition unit such as epichlorohydrin as illustrated by formula 1 is reacted, on porous supporting member, with one or more of polyfunctional material such as resorsinoal, diethanolamine as illustrared by formula 2, 3, 4 and 5. The product obtained is semipermeable membrane consisting essentially of a modified polyether such as resorsional modified polyether, crosslinked with polymer. This semipermeable membrane has an excellent resistivity to chlorine and is effectively used as membrane for back osmosis or ultrafiltration.
