Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare androstane compounds in high yield, without using an enzyme inhibitor, by culturing a mutant of microorganism belonging to Nocardia genus, in a medium containing sterols as substrate.
CONSTITUTION: To prepare androstane compounds such as androsta-1,4-diene- 3,17-dione (ADD), androst-4-ene-3,17-dione (4AD), etc., by culturing a mutant of microorganism belonging to Nocardia genus, e.g. Nocardia aliena MCI-0710 (FERM-P No.4075) in a medium containing sterol, its C-3 ester derivatives, C-3- ether derivatives, etc., at 20W40°C, pref. 30W35°C, and pH5W9, pref. 6W8, for usually ≤15 days.
