Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish the monitor in high accuracy and efficiency by circulating the waste gases from an atomic reactor in the pipes and in a radioactivity detecting container having a preset shape.
CONSTITUTION: The waste gases are ciculated through sampling and returning pipes 10 and 12 through a cylindrical or multi-cylinder radioactivity detector 20 of inverse well type which is shielded with the lead shielding member 21 of a radioactivity monitor 11 which has a capacity of 3 to 20 litters. The length of the portion of the pipe 12 to be inserted into the center of the container 20 is preset at 1/5 to 3/4 of the spacing between the inner and outer cylinders of the container 20. The pipe 10 is directed in the tangential direction of the outer circumference of the inner cylinder 20B so that the waste gases may be helically and uniformly in the container 20 under substantially static condition. As a result, the radioactivity of low concentration is detected by a radioactivity detector 22, and the dependency of a half valued period is reduced by the high detection efficiency. Thus, the monitor can be accomplished in high accuracy and efficiency if the radioactivity detecting signals are processed by a preamplifier 23, a main amplifier 25, a rate meter 26A, a multichannel wave height analyzer 27 and an analytic circuit 28.
