Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Substituted sym-triazine compound of formula [Y<1> is H, covalent bond; Y<2> is OH when Y<1> is H, and covalent bond when Y<1> is covalent bond; Z is R, RO, RNH, RR<1>N, RCH(OH)CH2RCH(OH) CH2, etc. (R, R<1> are aliphatic hydrocarbon); m, n are integers of >=2]. EXAMPLE:6-Dodecyl-(sym)-triazine-2,4-diol bistriethylene glycol ether. USE:A surface active agent, and a phase transfer catalyst. Especially, a crown ether compound wherein Y<1> and Y<2> are covalent bonds, has metal cation capturing activity, and is useful as a surface avtive agent as well as a phase transfer catalyst which activates an anionic reagent. PROCESS:The compound of formula is prepared by condensing mono-potassium polyethylene glycolate through 2- and 4-positions of chlorine atoms of 6-alkyl intermediate, which is obtained by reacting cyanuric chloride with a Grignard reagent.
