Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an additive for cosmetics effective to improve the adhesivity, spreadability, slippery, covering power, etc., of a wide variety of cosmetics, comprising microcrystalline cellulose having specific particle size distribution. CONSTITUTION:Microcrystalline cellulose powder (pref. having aspect ratio of the particle of <=3) having a sharp particle size distribution, wherein the content of particles having diameters of >=30 mu is <=10 wt%, and the average particle diameter is <=25mu (pref. 3-15mu). The above microcrystalline cellulose can be obtained by the acid hydrolysis (or alkaline oxidation decomposition) of natural or regenerated cellulose such as ramie, rayon, etc., under controlled decomposition conditions and drying conditions. The amount of the powder to the cosmetic is pref. about 1-80 wt%.
