PURPOSE: The title cob coal suitable for production of metallurgical coke by carbonization in a coke oven, containing a small amount of a caking coal and a bituminous substance as a main coke net work component, and as much as 10W70 wt.% of a slightly or non-caking coal and a carbonaceous substance.
CONSTITUTION: A cob coal for production of metallurgical coke having a volatile content in the range of not less than 25 and less than 45% d, and a density not less than 0.90 g/cm3, consisting of (A) not less than 20 and less than 85 wt.% of coal having a volatile content not less than 16% d and a Gieseler fluidity (M.F.) not less than 5 D.D.P.M.(Dial Division per Minute), (B) less than 70 wt.% of a slightly or non-caking coal and/or a carbonaceous substance having a Gieseler fluidity (M.F.) less than 5 D.D.P.M., and (C) 3W15 wt.% of a bituminous substance having a softening point lower than 75°C, and (D) less than 45 wt.% of a bituminous substance having a softening point not lower than 75°C and lower than 300°C as binders. The bituminous substances react with coal of a main component in a carbonization process to promote softening of the cob coal, and the cob coal is softened and collapsed to give an ordinary cob coal.
