Abstract
PURPOSE:The arc welding electrode which generates little quantity of hume and is suitable for hardfacing welding, prepared by including limited quantity of the peculiar carbide forming element, carbon, pure aluminum, and boron, and the balance substantially of iron. CONSTITUTION:This arc welding electrode consists of 3.0-4.0wt% of vanadium as the carbide forming elemefnt, V/5+0.5-1.2% of carbon necessary for hardening the base metal, 0.3-1.5% of pure aluminum necessary for stabilizing the arc, 0.2- 1.2% of boron necessary for hardening the base metal, and the balance substantially of iron. This welding electrode has no need of the slag former. According to such composed welding electrode, the quantity of generated hume becomes little, and the arc is stabilized, so that a beautiful appearance of bead is obtained. Further addition of 1.5-3.5% Cr and 1.1-3.0% Mn effects the increase of martensitic structure in the base metal.
