Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the alcohol concentrations is solution with good accuracy by using a specific electrode which contains chemical stable alcohol dehydrogenase.
CONSTITUTION: A standard solution indicating a constant oxidation-reduction potential is contacted to one of the surfaces of an oxidation-reduction potential responsive membrane composed of an oxidative-reductive substance preferably like dibutyl ferrocent, a conductivity modifier and a high polymer substance as a membrane stock, whereby the oxidation-reduction membrane electrode is formed. On another surface the film comprising fixing alcohol dehydrogenase containing nicotinz mide adenine dinucleotide NAD on an enzyme carrier such as gelatin laminated and is contacted with an alcohol solution. By such alcohol selective enzyme electrode, the NAM is reduced to its reductant NADH2 by as much as the amount corresponding to the alcohol concentration, whereby the oxidation-reduction potentials of the oxidation/reduction system composed of NAD/NADH2 are measured.
