Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the capacity of a transmission line through control of sag at a high temperature with a simple method by reducing diameter of a closely twisted steel core alminium strand by a specified amount under a external pressure applied by a roll after installed stretched.
CONSTITUTION: An external pressure is applied by rolls 1 and 2 so as to reduce the diameter of a closely twisted steel core aluminium strand W by 1 to 5 percent. For example, after the end of installation, rolls 1 and 2 are mounted on the electric wire W and an external pressure is applied from the circumference thereof adjusting a wheel 3. Under such a condition, a motor M serving as a drive source of the rolls 1 and 2 is driven so that the rolls run to the subsequent steel tower while the diameter of the electric wire is reduced in the span. With such an arrangement, the alumunium strand layer W2 alone is plastically deformed to preduce a slight clearance with the steel core W1. In this manner, only the steel core bears a tension caused when temperature rises and thus, the increase in the sag can be checked
