Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high-nitrile resin of good gas-barrier properties, containing only small amounts of rasidual monomey.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a diene rubber latex composed of (10) at least 50wt.% of a conjugated diene and (2) the rest of a copolymerizable menomer (A) 95-75 parts by wt. of a monomer mixture consiting of (a) 45-90wt.% of acrylonitrile, (b) 30-8 wt.% of an aromatic vinyl compound, and (c) 2-25wt.% of an alkyl (meth) acrylate is continuously added to ω the polymerization system at such a rate that the component (A) accounts for 5 wt.% based on the total system at any time to carry out emulsion polymerization. Immediately after the completion of the component (A) addition, (B) 5-25 parts by wt. of amsther monomer mixthre consisting of (d) 0-50wt.% of the component (a), (e) 0-100 wt.% of the component (b), and (f) 0-100wt.% of the component (c) is continuously added to the resulting system such a rate that the component (B) accounts for less than 5wt.% based on this system, which is brought to a conversion of ≥90% at the end of the addition, followed by further polymerization up to a conversion of ≥95%. Thus yielding the objective resin containing 5-25wt.% of the diene rubber
