Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool a soln. of a caustic alkali by bringing the soln. into direct contact with a liquefied refrigerant, and to prevent corrosion of equipment due to the caustic alkali accompanied by the gasified refrigerant and decomposition of the refrigerant by bringing the gasified refrigerant into indirect contact with a liquefying refrigerant so as to condense and liquefy it for circulation.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. of a caustic alkali is supplied from pipe 1 to cooling vessel 2, and a liquefied refrigerant is supplied to vessel 2 through tank 3 and pump 4. Caustic alkali hydrate crystals formed by cooling are taken out from pipe 5. Gasified refrigerant 6 is liquefied in heat exchanger 7 and circulated to tank 3. In exchanger 7 a refrigerant for liquefying the gasified refrigerant supplied by pump 8 liquefies the gasified refrigerant and part of the refrigerant itself is gasified. The refrigerant is then fed to vapor-liquid separator 9, and the gaseous one is compressed 10, liquefied by condensation 11, and circulated as a liquefying refrigerant through separator 9
