Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyprenyl alcohol in the trans form conveniently in a few steps, by the reaction of a polyprenylallylsulfonyl compound with a lithium lower alkylamine.
CONSTITUTION: A polyprenyl alcohol of formula II is prepared by desulfonation of a polyprenylallylsulfonyl compound of formula I (R1=allyl; alkyl-substituted allyl; m=2W8; n-1W4; m+n≤9) with a lithium-lower alkylamine. Ethylamine is preferably used as the lower alkylamine. The reaction temp. is preferably ≤-30°C, more preferably around -80°C. Since the preparation process of the starting compound proceeds with high stereo-selectivity, the objective compound of wholly the trans form can be obtained starting from a compound in the trans form.
USE: Raw material for synthesis of physiologically active substances, e.g. vitamin K2, coenzyme Q, etc
