Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent wheel lock and provide sufficient braking power by suspending for a given length of time the supply of fluid pressure to rear wheel brakes when unloaded prior to reversion to master pressure and by proportioning fluid pressure level for rear wheel brakes to the master pressure level.
CONSTITUTION: When braking is applied to an unloaded vehicle, there occurs a proportionate rise in master cylinder pressure Pm and in rear wheel cylinder pressure Pw, but deceleration of a vehicle to a predetermined speed rotates a ball 18, disengages from a cut valve means 16 and closes a valve 16b, thereby shutting off the supply of fluid pressure to rear wheel brakes. Continuous increase in master pressure would move a stepped piston 21 leftward, lifting a valve 16b off its seat and allowing master pressure to be applied to the rear wheel cylinder. As the master pressure slowing down a vehicle to a given speed is raised to a higher level when the vehicle is loaded than when unloaded, sufficient braking power is obtained by operation of a piston 21 which keeps the cut valve means 16 open
