Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain a constant measurement secion, by compensating frequency characteristics varying with a propagation speed, by changing the pulse width and sampling point of pulse-modulated carriers.
CONSTITUTION: The output of signal generator 1 is modulated 2 with a pulse from circuit 9 and transmitted measured transmission line 4 via directional coupler 3, so that a component reflected by transmission line 4 will be extracted and recorded 11 by sampling circuit 10 via coupler 3, RF amplifier 6, detector 7, and video amplifier 8. Recorder 11 synchronizes with the sweep frequency of generator 1, and frequency characteristics of the reflection amount in section, which is determined by the pulse width of a transmitted wave and the sampling point of the reflected wave, are measured. Detecting the time while carriers go from the reflected wave and return through the transmission line, circuit 9 gates circuit 2 and generates a sampling pulse, so that the pulse width of the transmitted wave and the sampling point will vary with the transmission rate of carriers
