Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve scavenging effect and thereby improve ignitability of fuel, by projecting the grounding electrode of creeping plug radially of its side metal and forming radial slits, thereby preventing development of channelling.
CONSTITUTION: In the arrangement of this invention, grounding electrode 16 of creeping plug 10 is projected radially from the inner peripheral surface of side metal 15. Inner end face 16b of the electrode 16 is located in the same plane with insulator end face 13a or axially outwards of the same, whereas the outer end face of the electrode 16 is located in the same plane with top end face 15a of the side metal 15. With such an arrangement, spark is made to run along the portion where channelling is not caused, so that development of channelling is prevented. Further, slits 14, 2∼4mm wide, are formed radially in the grounding electrode 16 and at the top of side metal 15. By determining the sum of the width of these slits 14 at a value 28∼70% of the circumference of the circle having a radius equal to the distance between the center electrode 12 and the inner surface of electrode 16, scavenging effect is improved and thus ignitability of fuel can be improved
