Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively deliver ice in cubes or crushed by providing a screw conveyer and delivery outlets at both ends of the screw conveyer for a water reservoir and operating the screw conveyer in normal or reverse direction.
CONSTITUTION: A screw conveyer 18 is mounted on a shaft 32 in an ice reservoir 16. An ice crushing unit 20 is provided on one end of the screw conveyer 18. The ice crushing unit comprises a wing rotor 34 and a crushed ice delivery tube 38. The other end of the screw conveyer 18 is extended into an ice cube delivery tube 24. A reversible motor 44 drives the screw conveyer 18 in both directions. When the motor 44 operates in the normal direction, the ice crushing unit 20 and screw conveyer 18 operate to feed ice cubes to an ice crusher 40 and deliver crushed ice from the crushed ice delivery tube 38. When the motor operates in the reverse direction, the screw conveyer 18 conveys ice cubes from the ice reservoir 16 to the ice cube delivery tube 24. Thus the ice dispenser is capable of selectively dispensing ice cubes or crushed ice
