Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject device wherein the high tension side discharge electrode part of a gas sealed type discharge gap device is encompassed by an insulating cylinder of high dielectric constant, thereby to relax the field on the surface of the high tension side electrode and to reduce the irregularity of discharge due to the polarity effect.
CONSTITUTION: Discharge electrodes 1 and 2 are arranged in a vessel 3 in which a negative gas such as a SF6 gas or the like, and an earth side electrode 2 is held by a vessel cover plate 4 and a high tension side electrode 1 by a spacer 5. An insulating cylinder 8 of high dielectric constant is fitted in the spacer 5. Accordingly, the equipotential line on the surface of the high tension side discharge electrode 1 is hoisted by the insulating cylinder 8, and the field on the surface of the electrode is relaxed. As a result of the relaxation of the field, the polarity difference of the discharge is reduced.
