Abstract

PURPOSE: A flux which comprises the basic system CaO-Al2O3 and a fixed amount of MgO and SiO2 and which is capable of preventing the conventional fluorine fume pollution by suppressing hydrogen absorption.
CONSTITUTION: A flux for solution of electroslag which contains 35 to 55% CaO, 35 to 55% Al2O3, 2 to 10% F, less than 10% MgO, less than 10% SiO2, and more than 5% each or composite of MgO and SiO2. This composition ensures good working conditions, high refining efficiency, and good quality cast products and also effectively eliminates the generation of harmful fluorine fume at the time of solution.
