Abstract
PURPOSE:To continuously change the direction of the transmission line of light readily with a simple cnstruction and provide a signal conversion function to light by burying optical fibers in a structural body of high polymer material having flexibility. CONSTITUTION:If a luminous flux from a light source 19 is entered to optical fibers 3 and an a.c. signal 12 is supplied to the primary side of a transformer 7, then this is superposed with the voltage of a.d.c. power source 9 and is applied between a conductor layer 4 and a stationary electrode 6. The high polymer material structural body 1 then vibrates or curves by the effect between the electrodes. Hence, the luminous flux emerging from the other end of the optcal fibers 3 differs considerably as compared to the case when there is no a.c. signal. In this way, the converter is capable of changing the direction of the transmission line of light and is also usable directly as an electric-light signal converter. If the high polymer material structual body 1 is vibrated or curved by a mechanical means, a mechanical- light converter may be formed.
