Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform hydrocarbon mixtures having a narrow molecular weight and carbon number ranges selectively, by pyrolytically decomposing polyolefin waste under controlled decomposition temperature and fractionating conditions, and by recovering liquids through fractionation.
CONSTITUTION: A polyolefin waste is introduced from the hopper 5 through the hopper 6, the screw conveyor 9, and the inlet 11 into the decomposition part of the bath type reactor 1. Molten polyolefin heated at 400W460°C by external heating is decomposed into a vapor, which rises through the upper space 3 and the fractionating part 21 to the top outlet 4, where the vapor is removed and condensed by the condeser 17 cooled with the cooling water 16. A part of the condensed liquid is refluxed through the reflux jacket 18, the reflux pipe 19 to the fractionaing part 21, and the rest is discharged from the outlet pipe 20 to a receiver. The temperature of the top outlet 4 is controlled at 300W360°C by selecting appropriate refluxing and fractionating conditions.
