Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce quality dispersion and obtain a high-quality soft contact lens usable continuously, by heating a stock solution uniformly filled between a concave and a convex molds to form a lens having a constant tensile strength, and by extracting the lens released from the molds with water. CONSTITUTION:About more than five times excess amount of a stock solution than required is introduced into the concave mold 1, on which the convex mold 2 is put to overflow and fill the stock solution uniformly between the two molds 1 and 2. At least one of the molds has an interference face, for instance a pair of molds consisting of the concave mold 1 with an interference face and the convex mold 2 without it. The resulting material is heated to form a lens having a tensile strength >=0.1kgf/cm<2> and the lens, a solvent-containing gel, in immersed in water to be released from the molds. The solvent in the gel is then replaced by water, and the lens is adjusted to make its visible light transmission of not less than 90% per 0.1 mm. thickness. N-vinyl-pyrrolidone, methyl methacrylate, dimethylsufoxide solution, etc. may be preferably cited as the stock solution.
