Abstract

PURPOSE: A viscoelastic blend for vibration damping members having high vibration absorption, heat resistance, and adhesiveness to metals, comprising polyisobutylene, a cyclic olefin hydrocarbon resin, and magnesium or/and calcium carbonate.
CONSTITUTION: 10W50wt% of polyisobutylene is incorporated with 25W45wt% of a cyclic olefin hydrocarbon resin and 25W45wt% of magnesium carbonate or/ and calcium carbonate. The addition of a modified butyl rubber improves oil absorption without degrading vibration absorption. The blend is used as a middle layer for joining two metal layers in a vibration damping member.
