Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a vinylidene chloride latex capable of giving coated articles having improved antistatic properties, by emulsion polymerization of vinylidene chloride, a copolymerizable vinyl monomer, and a specific monomer.
CONSTITUTION: Emulsion polymerization of (A) 50W95 parts by wt. of vinylidene chloride (VdC), (B) 50W5 parts by wt. of one or two or more types of vinyl monomers copolymerizable with VdC, e.g. methyl acrylate, vinyl chloride, etc., and (C) 0W5 parts by wt. of one or two or more types of monomers selected from unsaturated carboxylic acids, acnylamide derivatives, and hydroxyalkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids is carried out in the presence of an emulsifying agent and a polymerization catalyst in an aqueous medium while adding 0.2W3 parts by wt. of 2- acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (salt) in the form of an aqueous solution by portions or continuously.
