Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the formaldehyde liberated in a formaldehyde-type thermosetting resin without degrading the properties of the resin, by adding specific amounts of urea and resorcinol to the resin.
CONSTITUTION: 100 parts by wt. of a formaldehyde-type thermosetting resin is kneaded with (A) 5W20 parts by wt. of a urea, (B) 0.5W8 parts by wt., preferably 1W5 parts by wt., of resorcinol above normal temperature, and allowed to stand for 5W6 hr, preferably about 12 hr. The amount of the liberated formaldehyde is reduced to a concentration of 0.1W0.2% or less which is odorless.
EFFECT: Effective for the reduction of not only liberated formaldehyde but also formaldehyde released from cured resins with time. Improved adhesiveness.
