Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent exfoliation or fall of refractory lining of vessels for molten iron or steel, by coating the damaged part of refractory lining of the vessels with fine particles of refractory material, and after being smoothed, by lining the part with usual refractory material so as to increase the adhesion property of the lining material used in the repair.
CONSTITUTION: When the refractory lining of inner surface of a vessel for molten iron or steel, e.g., a ladle, a mixer furnace, or a torpedo car etc. is damaged, the damaged part is coated with water-or air-hardening refractory material of particle size up to 1 mm, and is smoothed. The refractory material is made by mixing one or more members of the group comprising particles of alumina, mullite, spinel, calcined bauxite, high alumina chamotte etc. with one or more members of the binder group comprising alumina cement, alkali silicate, sodium silicate etc. The coated surface is repaired by spraying usual castable refractories and is baked. The sprayed repairing refractry is scarcely exfoliated, so that the refractory lining is fit for use for a long period of time.
